German carrier USC’s sole Airbus A340-300 is back in normal flight operations after a charter flight debacle left it stranded in Kingston Norman Manley, Jamaica, last week. The D-AUSC was stranded in Kingston for five days after departing Dubai International via Cairo International on May 2, 2024, according to ADS-B data.
USC CEO Klaus Dieter Martin claimed that the plane was confiscated by local authorities, as reported by local media. “The plane was not confiscated,” he told Ch-Aviation. “This was a round trip flight with one return ticket for all passengers. The passengers and crew entered the country, but the Jamaican authorities were not happy with the passengers, although they provided them [Verkehrsrechte] and country rights based on the [Namensliste der Passagiere] which had been sent to them in advance. USC agreed to fly the passengers back to their departure point, but it took some time to rewrite the immigration paperwork. This was the only reason the plane took longer than planned [Kingston] “Stay,” he declared.
According to the Jamaican Ministry of National Security, there were obvious irregularities and missing information in the original application for permission to fly, but the necessary documentation was later submitted to the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority, thus the requirements were met, Radio Jamaica reported. According to the ministry, two passengers on the flight did not appear in the passenger list submitted, raising suspicions of human trafficking, local newspaper The Gleaner reported. The USC-A340-300 is now returning to regular service after all matters have been resolved and the necessary approvals have been obtained.
