On February 9, 2024, the ANA subsidiary Air Japan operated the first flight with the new business model as a low-cost airline. This led from Tokyo (Narita) to Bangkok.
The former regional airline Air Japan has been transformed into a low-cost airline that will focus on medium and long-haul flights. First, a man took off in a Boeing 787-8. The parent company ANA Holdings hopes that the new low-coster will be able to transport additional tourists to/from Japan.
The first flight took off from Tokyo Narita Airport on February 9, 2024 at around 6:45 p.m. under flight number NQ1. At around 11:30 p.m. the long-haul aircraft arrived at the Thai capital airport Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi). This route will initially be served six times a week with Boeing 787-8s.
The addition of another route has been announced on February 22, 2024. These are supposed to run from Tokyo-Narita to Seoul (Incheon). 26th of April. In February 2024, Air Japan will also head to Singapore from Narita.
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft have pure economy class seating. Unlike the parent company, they do not offer different classes of transport in terms of seats. ANA Holdings emphasizes in a media statement that the legroom should be at the same level as its sister company All Nippon Airways.
ANA Holdings currently has three flight operations that operate under their own brand. These are All Nippon Airways, which is positioned as a full-service carrier, the low-cost airline Peach, which is active domestically and on short-haul flights, and Air Japan, which focuses on low-cost medium and long-haul flights. Furthermore, there are regional subsidiaries with their own certificates, which, however, do not appear publicly under their own brand.
